Buying a sofa bed in Melbourne: delivery times, apartments and what to expect
Updated
If you live in Melbourne, the biggest advantage of buying a sofa bed from a Melbourne warehouse is time: an in-stock sofa can leave the warehouse within two business days and reach most metro suburbs a few days later. Here is how delivery actually works, how to plan for apartments and narrow terrace hallways, and what to do on the day it arrives.
How long does delivery take in Melbourne?
There are two parts to every delivery time: when the sofa leaves the warehouse, and how long it spends with the carrier.
| What you order | Leaves our Melbourne warehouse | Then in transit |
|---|---|---|
| In-stock colour and size | Within 2 business days | Melbourne metro: 2–3 business days |
| Made-to-order colour or size | In about 3–7 weeks | Melbourne metro: 2–3 business days |
| Fabric swatch | Usually delivered within 3–8 business days | |
Outside the metro area, regional Victoria takes 5–8 business days in transit. The full table for every state is on our delivery page, and your estimated delivery date is shown at checkout before you pay.
What is in stock right now
These pieces are in our Melbourne warehouse at the moment (this list updates automatically as stock changes):
- Nova Sofa Bed – Thyme, 2m
- Nova Sofa Bed – Coal, 2m
- Nova L Corner Sofa – Open – Thyme, 2 × 2m modules (reversible)
- Nova L Corner Sofa – Closed – Thyme, 2 × 2m modules
Every other colour and size is made to order. If you need a sofa by a fixed date – guests arriving, a lease starting – choose an in-stock option or order early.
A realistic timeline
Say you order an in-stock sofa bed on a Monday morning:
- Monday–Tuesday: the order is packed and leaves the warehouse (within 2 business days).
- Wednesday–Friday: in transit across Melbourne (2–3 business days).
- Delivery day: the boxes arrive at your ground-floor front door, Monday to Friday, excluding public holidays.

Order late on a Friday or just before a public holiday and everything shifts by a few days. Business days do not include weekends or Victorian public holidays.
Apartments: plan the last 30 metres
Delivery is to your ground-floor front door, so for an apartment the last stretch – lobby, lift, corridor – is up to you. A little planning makes it easy:
- Book the lift if your building requires it. Many Melbourne apartment blocks ask residents to book a service lift and use lift padding for furniture.
- Check the loading area and parking. Let your building manager know a delivery is coming and where the driver can stop.
- Have a second person. Foam sofas are much lighter than framed ones, but boxes are still bulky. Two people make the carry safe.
- Measure the lift and corridors – width, height and the diagonal of the lift door. Our size guide shows how.
A foam sofa bed has a real advantage here: it arrives compressed, with no metal frame or pull-out mechanism, so there is nothing rigid to jam in a tight lift or stair turn.
Terraces, weatherboards and narrow hallways
Inner Melbourne is full of Victorian terraces and Edwardian weatherboards with long, narrow hallways and tight turns into the living room. Before you buy any sofa:
- Measure the narrowest point – usually the front door frame or the hallway arch.
- Check any turn: a box has to swing through a doorway at an angle, so measure the diagonal of the doorway too.
- Look up – low arches and pendant lights catch tall boxes.
Our guide to corner sofa bed sizes explains how to measure rooms and doorways step by step.
On the day: unboxing and setting up
- Clear the floor where the sofa will go before you open anything.
- Open the boxes in the room – once the foam is unwrapped it starts to expand and will not fit back through a doorway as easily.
- Cut packaging carefully with scissors rather than a sharp blade, so you do not nick the cover.
- Let it breathe. Compressed foam takes 6–10 hours to fully expand. Wait until it has fully expanded before using it as a bed.
- Keep the room ventilated for the first day – open a window if the weather allows.
If anything arrives damaged, take photos and an unboxing video and contact us within 30 days of delivery – see our returns policy for the details.
Try it at home for 30 days – free pickup in Melbourne
Every sofa, sofa bed, chair and ottoman comes with a 30-day home trial. If it doesn’t suit your space, tell us within 30 days of delivery. The same suburbs also get same-day delivery on in-stock pieces ordered by 3pm on a weekday. In most of Melbourne – suburbs within about an hour’s drive of our warehouse, from Werribee and Melton to Frankston, Ringwood and Craigieburn – we pick it up from your home for free. Anywhere else in Victoria, pickup is $99. Check your suburb.
Melbourne weather and your sofa
Melbourne can do four seasons in a day, and that matters a little for upholstery:
- Winter damp: keep a little air moving around the sofa, especially against an external wall, and avoid putting it right next to a heater.
- Summer sun: north- and west-facing windows fade fabric fastest. A sheer curtain makes a big difference.
- Washable covers make the rest easy – see our guide to washing removable sofa covers.
In stock or made to order: how to decide
Both routes end with the same sofa – the difference is timing and choice.
- Choose an in-stock option if you have a date to hit: a new flat, guests at Christmas, a teenager moving out of a shared room. You get the sofa in roughly a week instead of a month or more.
- Choose made to order if colour matters more than speed. All 17 corduroy colours and every size are available; it simply takes about 3–7 weeks before dispatch.
- Not sure about colour? Order a swatch first. It usually arrives within 3–8 business days – still faster than waiting for the wrong colour.
Whichever you choose, the checkout shows your estimated delivery date before you pay, so you can see whether it works for your plans.
Outside the metro area
If you are in regional Victoria, transit usually takes 5–8 business days after dispatch; more remote addresses fall into our “other regional and remote areas” zone, which takes 12–18 business days. Everything else above still applies: delivery is to your ground-floor front door on a weekday, and compressed foam makes the carry inside easier. For addresses further afield, check the state-by-state table on our delivery page.
Shipping costs
Shipping is calculated by state and order weight and shown at checkout before you pay, so there are no surprises after you order. Melbourne metro is the closest delivery zone to our warehouse.
