Buying a sofa bed in Sydney: delivery times, strata and small spaces
Updated
Sydney homes are often small, often up a flight of stairs and often inside a strata building with its own rules about moving furniture. A sofa bed that arrives compressed, with no metal frame, makes all of that easier. Here is how long delivery to Sydney takes from our Melbourne warehouse, how to handle strata and walk-ups, and how to look after a corduroy sofa in Sydney’s humid summers.
Delivery times to Sydney
Every order ships from our Melbourne warehouse. The time to your door is the time until dispatch plus the time in transit:
| What you order | Leaves the warehouse | Transit to Sydney metro | Typical total |
|---|---|---|---|
| In-stock colour and size | Within 2 business days | 3–6 business days | About 1–2 weeks |
| Made to order | In about 3–7 weeks | 3–6 business days | About 4–8 weeks |
| Fabric swatch | Usually delivered within 3–8 business days | ||
Addresses outside the Sydney metro area fall into our regional zones – see the full table on the delivery page. Your estimated delivery date is shown at checkout before you pay, and deliveries are made Monday to Friday, excluding public holidays.
In stock now
If you need a sofa bed in Sydney soon, start with what is already in our warehouse (this list updates automatically):
- Nova Sofa Bed – Thyme, 2m
- Nova Sofa Bed – Coal, 2m
- Nova L Corner Sofa – Open – Thyme, 2 × 2m modules (reversible)
- Nova L Corner Sofa – Closed – Thyme, 2 × 2m modules
Plan your order around the date you need it
- Guests arriving in under two weeks? Choose an in-stock colour.
- Moving into a new place? Order early and choose an estimated date after your move-in day, so the sofa arrives at the new address.
- Want a specific colour? Order a swatch now, decide when it arrives, then allow about 4–8 weeks for a made-to-order sofa.
- Around Christmas and Easter, remember public holidays are not business days in either Victoria or New South Wales.
Strata buildings: what to sort out before delivery day
Most Sydney apartment buildings are run by a strata scheme, and many have by-laws about moving furniture. Before your sofa arrives:
- Read the by-laws or ask the building manager about moving furniture through common areas.
- Book the lift if bookings are required, and ask for lift protection blankets to be put up.
- Check where a delivery vehicle can stop – a loading dock, a visitor space or the street.
- Remember the delivery is to the ground-floor front door, so plan who will take the boxes up.
- Keep the packaging moving: many buildings ask residents to flatten cardboard and put it in the right recycling area, not the corridor.
Walk-ups, terraces and tight stairs
Older Sydney apartment blocks are often three or four-storey walk-ups with tight, turning stairwells, and inner-city terraces have narrow halls and steep stairs. That is where foam sofas really help:
- No rigid frame – compressed foam packages flex slightly and have no hard corners to jam on a landing.
- Lighter – a 2m Nova Sofa Bed weighs about 40 kg in total, so two people can manage it.
Still measure the narrowest point of the stairwell and every turn. Our size guide shows how, and our guide to compressed sofas explains unboxing.

Small Sydney apartments: making a sofa bed work
- Studio: a 1.5m Nova Sofa Bed (150 × 100 cm) leaves room for a desk and still sleeps a guest.
- One-bedder with a study nook: a 2m sofa bed (200 × 100 cm) in the living room doubles as the guest room.
- Two-bedder where the second room is an office: consider whether you need a bed in there at all – a sofa bed in the lounge may free up the office. Our article on sofa bed vs guest bed walks through the decision.
Unboxing in a small apartment
Space is the main challenge when you unbox a compressed sofa in a compact flat:
- Move the coffee table and rug out of the way first. The foam grows quickly once the wrapping is off and needs its full footprint.
- Open one box at a time. In a small room, unwrapping everything at once leaves you nowhere to stand.
- Flatten cardboard as you go and keep a bag handy for the plastic wrapping, so the hallway stays clear for neighbours.
- Open the balcony door or a window while the foam expands – new furniture has a “new” smell for a day or so.
- Allow 6–10 hours before anyone sleeps on it. Unpacking in the morning means the bed is ready by evening.
Corner sofas in Sydney apartments
Open-plan apartments often have one corner where the lounge naturally sits. A compact corner like the Nova Flex Corner (200 × 200 cm) gives corner seating without taking over the room, while a 2 × 1.5m L corner (250 × 150 cm) suits a slightly bigger living area. If the corner faces a balcony door, check the open end will not block it – our guide to planning a corner sofa layout covers left vs right.
Humidity, salt air and summer sun
Sydney summers are warm and humid, and many homes are close to the coast. A few habits keep a fabric sofa fresh:
- Let air circulate. Leave a small gap between the sofa and the wall, especially on an external wall, and run a fan or air-conditioner on sticky days.
- Do not leave damp covers on. After washing, dry covers fully (or refit slightly damp and leave the room ventilated) – see our washing guide.
- Watch the afternoon sun. West-facing windows are hardest on fabric colour; a sheer curtain helps.
- Air the foam occasionally. If the sofa is used as a bed through summer, take the cushions off and stand them on end for a few hours now and then.
Shipping costs and returns
Shipping is calculated by state and order weight and shown at checkout before you pay. Every Nova piece comes with a 3-year warranty, and our 30-day home trial lets you live with it before you decide (returns from NSW carry a 20% restocking fee).
One more tip for Sydney buyers: order your fabric swatch at the same time as you start measuring. By the time you have checked strata rules, booked the lift and measured the stairs, the swatch will usually have arrived – and you can order the sofa knowing exactly how the colour looks in your own light.
Sydney buyer checklist

- Strata rules checked and lift booked.
- Stairs, landings and doorways measured.
- Two people ready to carry boxes from the front door.
- 6–10 hours for the foam to expand before anyone sleeps on it.

Frequently asked questions
How long does sofa bed delivery to Sydney take?
In-stock colours leave our Melbourne warehouse within 2 business days and take 3–6 business days to reach Sydney metro addresses. Made-to-order colours take about 3–7 weeks before dispatch.
Will you carry the sofa up to my apartment?
Delivery is to your ground-floor front door, Monday to Friday. Plan for two people to carry the boxes up, and book the lift if your building requires it.
Is a foam sofa bed easier to get up stairs?
Yes. It arrives compressed with no metal frame or mechanism, and a 2m Nova Sofa Bed weighs about 40 kg, so it is much easier to carry up stairs than a framed sofa bed.
How much is delivery to Sydney?
Shipping is calculated by state and order weight, and the cost and estimated delivery date are shown at checkout before you pay.
