Christmas guests coming? When to order a sofa bed
Family staying over Christmas? The sofa bed has to be in the room – unboxed and fully expanded – before the first guest arrives. Here is how long each option takes to reach you, and what to check before you order.
How long it takes to arrive
Our pieces come three ways. In stock colours leave our Melbourne warehouse within 2 business days. Pre-order colours are on our next shipment and leave within 2 business days of reaching the warehouse. Made to order pieces take about 3–7 weeks to make, then travel to you. Each colour and size shows which one it is on the product page.

Delivery is Monday to Friday and the windows above do not promise a day. If a date matters, choose a pre-order colour and email support@ozsofa.com before you order.
Leave time for the foam to expand
Nova pieces arrive compressed in boxes. Open them in the room where the sofa bed will live and allow 6–10 hours for the foam to fully expand before anyone sleeps on it – so plan for it to arrive at least a day before your guests. See what a compressed sofa is.
Check these before you order
- Who is sleeping on it. Our sofa beds are low, all-foam pieces. Younger guests usually love them; some older guests prefer a higher, firmer bed. If height matters, email us for the sleeping height first – and read sofa bed or daybed for a guest room.
- How many are sleeping. For two adults, the Nova L corner makes a 2 × 2m bed.
- Getting it in. Delivery is to your front door at ground level. The compressed boxes are much easier to carry upstairs or into a lift than a framed sofa – see measuring doorways, stairs and lifts.
- Delivery cost. It depends on the piece and your state, and every product page shows it for your postcode before you pay – see delivery.
If it isn’t right after the visit
Every furniture order has a 30-day home trial, counted from delivery. Across much of Melbourne we collect it for free if it isn’t right; anywhere else there is no fee if you send it back to our Melbourne warehouse yourself, or we can arrange the pickup for 20% of the order price.
Frequently asked questions
Will a sofa bed arrive before Christmas?
It depends on the colour, size and your postcode. Pre-order colours arrive sooner than made-to-order pieces. The product page shows the estimated window for your postcode, and says when some of those dates fall after 24 December.
Can I use it the day it arrives?
Allow 6–10 hours after unpacking for the foam to fully expand. Ordering so that it arrives at least a day before your guests is safest.
Is there same-day delivery in December?
Same-day delivery across much of Melbourne and Geelong is only for in-stock pieces ordered by 3pm on a weekday. The same-day delivery page shows whether anything is in stock right now.
