Buying a sofa bed in Brisbane: delivery, stairs and humid weather
Updated
Buying a sofa bed in Brisbane comes with its own questions: how long will it take to come up from Melbourne, how do you get it up the outside stairs of a Queenslander, and will a fabric sofa cope with a humid summer? Here are straight answers, plus a few habits that keep a corduroy sofa fresh in the subtropics.
How long delivery to Brisbane takes
All orders leave from our Melbourne warehouse. Allow for dispatch time plus transit:
| What you order | Leaves the warehouse | Transit to Brisbane metro | Typical total |
|---|---|---|---|
| In-stock colour and size | Within 2 business days | 5–8 business days | About 1.5–2 weeks |
| Made to order | In about 3–7 weeks | 5–8 business days | About 4–9 weeks |
| Fabric swatch | Usually delivered within 3–8 business days | ||
Addresses outside Brisbane metro – including much of regional Queensland – fall into our “other regional and remote areas” zone (12–18 business days in transit). Check the delivery page for every zone; your estimated delivery date is shown at checkout before you pay. Deliveries are made Monday to Friday, excluding public holidays.

Queenslanders, highsets and outside stairs
Many Brisbane homes are raised timber Queenslanders or highset houses, with the living areas up a flight of outdoor stairs. Delivery is to your ground-floor front door, so if your lounge is upstairs, plan the last part of the journey:
- Check the stairs. Measure the width between the handrails, and look for a landing or a turn halfway up.
- Look at the front door frame and the hallway. Older Queenslanders often have narrow central halls with doors opening off them.
- Two people, dry weather. Carrying boxes up wet timber stairs is slippery – if a storm rolls in, wait it out under cover.
- Foam makes it easier. A compressed foam sofa has no frame and no mechanism, and a 2m Nova Sofa Bed weighs about 40 kg in total, so two people can manage outdoor stairs comfortably.
Our size guide shows how to measure doorways and stairs, and the compressed sofa guide explains unboxing.
Storm season deliveries
Brisbane summers bring afternoon storms. Cardboard does not like rain, so:
- Plan for someone to be home on delivery day so the boxes come straight inside.
- Bring boxes inside as soon as you can, and open them indoors.
- If a box does get wet, open it promptly, take the wrapped foam out and let any damp cardboard dry away from the sofa.
- If anything is damaged, take photos and an unboxing video and contact us within 30 days of delivery – see our returns policy.

Unboxing on a hot, humid day
Warmth actually helps compressed foam recover, so a Brisbane summer is a good time to unbox. A few things make it smoother:
- Unbox inside, not on the verandah. Foam that expands outside will not fit back through the door easily, and you do not want it sitting in humid air or sun.
- Close the room to rain but open it to air – a fan or air-conditioning on a dry setting is ideal while the foam expands for 6–10 hours.
- Get the cardboard out quickly. Damp cardboard in a warm room is exactly what mould likes; flatten it and take it out to recycling the same day.
- Turn the blocks once or twice so every side gets air.
Humidity and mould: keeping a fabric sofa fresh
Humidity is the biggest difference between owning a sofa in Brisbane and in a southern city. Mould grows where moisture, warmth and still air meet, so the goal is simply to keep air moving and keep things dry:
- Leave a gap behind the sofa. A few centimetres between the sofa and an external wall lets air move and stops condensation building up.
- Use the fan or air-con dehumidify setting on muggy days, especially in closed-up rooms.
- Do not refit wet covers. In humid weather covers take longer to dry. Make sure they are only slightly damp before refitting, then leave the room ventilated – see our cover-washing guide.
- Air the cushions. If the sofa doubles as a bed through summer, stand the cushions on end for a few hours every week or two.
- Deal with spills straight away. Blot, then let the area dry fully. If liquid reaches the foam, unzip the cover and let the foam air-dry completely before refitting.
- Keep it out of harsh afternoon sun. Brisbane’s UV is strong; west-facing windows fade fabric fastest.
Is corduroy a good choice for Brisbane?
Corduroy is a hard-wearing fabric that hides everyday marks well, and on a Nova sofa every piece has a zip-off cover you can wash. In humid climates that washability matters: you can refresh the fabric rather than living with a musty sofa. If you are worried about heat, a lighter colour like Cream, Sand or Sky stays cooler to the touch in a sunny room than Black or Coal. Our guide to corduroy durability and cleaning has more detail, and the colour guide shows all 17 shades.
Choosing a size for Brisbane homes
- Queenslander lounge rooms are often long and narrow with high ceilings – a straight 2m Nova Sofa Bed (200 × 100 cm) along the long wall keeps the walkways clear.
- Open-plan new builds suit an L corner that defines the living zone; the 2 × 2m version makes a bed of about 200 × 200 cm for visitors.
- Units and townhouses often work best with a 1.5m sofa bed or a compact corner.
See how to plan a corner or modular layout for measurements and left vs right.
Brisbane buyer checklist
- In-stock option if you need it within about two weeks.
- Outside stairs, landings, door frames and hallways measured.
- A covered spot for boxes if storms are forecast.
- A gap behind the sofa and a plan for airflow in summer.
- 6–10 hours for the foam to expand before anyone sleeps on it.
Shipping is calculated by state and order weight and shown at checkout before you pay. Browse sofa beds – the Nova Sofa Bed starts at $840 – or order a fabric swatch first.
Frequently asked questions
How long does a sofa bed take to reach Brisbane?
In-stock colours leave our Melbourne warehouse within 2 business days and take 5–8 business days to reach Brisbane metro addresses. Made-to-order colours take about 3–7 weeks before dispatch.
Will the delivery driver carry it up my stairs?
Delivery is to your ground-floor front door. On a highset house, plan for two people to carry the boxes up the stairs.
How do I stop my sofa going mouldy in humid weather?
Keep air moving: leave a gap between the sofa and the wall, use a fan or air-conditioner on humid days, never refit wet covers and let any spill dry fully. Washing zip-off covers regularly also keeps the fabric fresh.
Do you deliver to regional Queensland?
Yes – addresses outside Brisbane metro fall into our other regional and remote areas zone, with 12–18 business days in transit after dispatch. The checkout shows the estimated delivery date for your postcode.
